Perayaan Golden Globes tahun 2022 hampir tanpa kemeriahan. Tak melibatkan media dan selebritas, serta tak disiarkan melalui televisi. Tahun ini, gaungnya kembali lantang. Ajang penghargaan tersebut mengudara melalui saluran NBC dan platform streaming Peacock. Komedian Jerrod Carmichael tampil sebagai pemandu acara. Sejak 2021, Golden Globes dan Hollywood Foreign Press Associated (HFPA) telah menjadi pusat kontroversi setelah penyelidikan media Los Angeles Times mengungkapkan ketiadaan etnis minoritas dalam anggota HFPA. Laporan tersebut juga menyoroti praktik bisnis HFPA, dan banyak selebritas serta pelaku perfilman mengecam akan memboikot organisasi tersebut. Sekarang, diutarakan oleh HFPA, lebih dari 10% pemilihnya berkulit hitam, dan grup tersebut mengubah aturan etika untuk mencegah anggota menerima segala bentuk hadiah atau pun apresiasi dari studio film apa pun.
